Induction Timetables

ATU Galway-Mayo Induction Module

This is an online module which introduces you to the supports and services available to you as a GMIT student. The online induction module will cover everything from the library, IT services, student services, the students’ union, academic supports and much more. The module is currently being updated and will be available soon.

#First5weeks is a programme of events/activities run over the first 5 weeks of term. It is designed to welcome you, help you settle in, make connections, create an awareness of the academic expectations within your programme, provide information on the supports and services available to you and to help you get to grips with the transition to third level education. It’s important that you engage with the activities during these weeks to help you settle in.

We are currently planning the events that will take place during the #First5weeks, come back here to check them out, or follow us on our social media channels below. You will also be kept informed in a weekly email from Student Services at the end of each week which details what happens the following week.

Staying Connected

You are starting on a new phase in your life and the transition to third level is exciting but can also be an anxious time for some. ATU Galway-Mayo has spent considerable time planning your welcome programme and will continue to work hard to ensure you have an excellent #First5weeks. It’s so important for you to start building connections so you have a support network during your time in college. So, it is important you get involved, communicate with your fellow students, and keep in touch with your lecturers. Don’t feel alone, reach out to us and talk to someone if you are struggling – one of the many staff, your PASS leader, your Class Rep or the Students’ Union. We want you to feel welcome; feel that you are a part of the ATU community and that you are supported.

Follow us on our Social Media channels to keep up to date with all that is going on.

Having Doubts - Drop in Before you Drop Out

If you are having problems (personal, financial, academic etc) and as a result are thinking about leaving your programme, please ensure you seek advice from the relevant departments/services before you make your decision. For more information on who this is and to access to the relevant forms click here.

If you decide to leave, it is essential that you complete a withdrawal form. Otherwise, you could encounter fees or grant difficulties if applying for college in ATU-Galway Mayo or elsewhere in the future.

No, first years attend a Department/School induction before they attend any classes. If, for example, your induction is on Tuesday 28th September your classes will start after this date. You will be told at your Department/School induction when your class timetable will start.

You will normally get your class timetable at your Department/School induction. If you happen to get access to the class timetable before your Department/School induction please keep in mind that your class timetable will not start until after your Department/School induction. Please also keep in mind that your timetable is subject to change.

This will depend on each individual Department/School. When you look at your induction timetable if there is a link under the Venue column, your induction is online. If it refers to a room your induction will be on campus.

Go to the #First5weeks section above and click on the relevant induction timetable.

The length of each Department/School induction will vary but please give at least 2 hours or more. If you need more information on your Department/School induction please email the relevant school using the contact details below.

Most online classes will use Microsoft Office365 applications (Word, Outlook, Teams) which can be installed for free by all registered ATU Galway-Mayo students on up to 5 personal devices.

To help make the most of the IT resources available and prepare for your online classes we recommend that you complete the short ‘IT Skills’ course as soon as you are registered. When you register you are automatically enrolled on the course which can be accessed by logging into the by going directly to VLE Galway-Mayo where you will find it under “My Courses”.

Please visit for updated information on accessing the library.
